Aquarium is an experiment in organic procedural generation. It was visually inspired by the mysterious beauty of certain underwater creatures. The spiny beauty of lionfish, the merged flora-and-fauna qualities of seadragons, and the hypnotic patterns of cuttlefish.
The forms reach out to and around mouse and/or touchscreen interaction, forming a real-time, generative composition, mixed seamlessly with two hours of original music by Bent Stamnes. This mix of inputs — time, algorithms, people tracking — becomes a dance and a soundtrack, playfully created on both sides of the screen simultaneously.
You can read more about the project on our studio website.
And if you're interested in seeing how the animation system is built, make sure to check out the source code sample using the latest version of Unity. The project and the source code are available for personal use (license info), but if you're interested in remixing/using it commercially, drop us a line.
